No Dumping Allowed

Effective this Thursday 9/8/2011, NYS has passed an ordinance making it illegal to dump raw sewage in the Long Island Sound.
Really? They just decided that human waste being dumped in fishing and swimming areas is not a good idea. The new law would require boaters to go to special pump stations to dispose of their sewage.
I would have loved to have attended that meeting when they finally decided that dumping human excrement in local waters was not a good thing. I wonder if anyone opposed these new restrictions?
Not being an avid boater, I never gave it much thought. I just assumed that dumping of any kind was illegal. It is interesting that the government prohibits smoking on most public beaches but up until now, they had no problem with dumping your crap in our swimming and fishing waters. You just can’t make this stuff up.
